This ikeepbookmarks account is where we store all the internet activities for the kids to access. There are great math sites, fun games and activities, keyboard practice sites, and much more.

Wrapping up the Semester

It went so fast!
Kinder has learned how to use a graphic organizer, draw pictures in TuxPaint, and learned to navigate webpages.

1st grade has had lessons in word processing and finished the semester with Santa or special letters. They also enjoyed some fun links for the holidays.

2nd grade has been working on word processing and has learned some tricks about editing. In January they will begin keyboarding lessons.

All the upper grades have been working on keyboarding skills and use their labs for Learning.com lessons and internet research. The lab in the 4th & 5th grade commons will be replaced this year with new All-in-one computers.

Be sure to check out the Robotics page to see what 1st and 5th grade learned this semester.

Great Start for 2011

The year is off to a great start. Classes have been coming to the lab for 6 weeks. I love how excited the students are when they come to Computer Lab.

Tux PaintIn Kinder, we have talked about how to use a mouse and keyboard (not everyone has used these). We have explored some great internet resources, StarFall (http://www.starfall.com/) and the Literacy Center (http://www.literacycenter.net/). In October, we will start learning about all the tools in TuxPaint, our wonderful drawing program. If you are interested in downloading this program, which is free, go  to http://www.tuxpaint.org/

In First grade has found some great activities on the web, TumbleBooks and Learning.com (these sites require a login, please check with your teacher). We will also be learning about typing and adding pictures to our writing, in the month of October.
(First grade will also be learning about robotics in their classrooms. Check out our Robotics blog @ http://rockinrobotics.blogspot.com/).

Second grade enjoyed learning about maps with GeoSkills. They will start using Learning.com for some technology lessons, and later in the year will use if for keyboarding lessons. We will also be working on typing stories and adding pictures.

Keyboarding3rd, 4th and 5th grade are using Learning.com to improve their typing skills. Students may bring home their login card to access their account to continue practicing. Keyboarding is a very important skill that students need to practice regularly, just like playing a musical instrument.

We use ikeepbookmarks to store all our links for the kids. You are welcome to access this at : www.ikeepbookmarks.com/summitt    Stop by the lab if you have any questions about our lessons.
Thanks for supporting Technology at Summit!
