Summer is Almost Here!

Need something for your kids to do when it is just too hot outside? Or maybe you have them at work with you?  We use an online links page to store all our class links. You'll find many great activities to keep them busy. Just click here: ikeepbookmarks/summitt

Here's a great site for math practice:
Maths Zone

Students may also continue to work on Learning.com lessons. These are online computer lessons that are provided by our school district. Your child will need to have their login information. You can ask your teacher for this login or email me.

Tux PaintWe use a free drawing program for the younger students called Tux Paint. It can be downloaded and installed for free. Your kids will enjoy hours of drawing  and creating.    http://tuxpaint.org/

Lab Happenings

It's been a busy year! With 8 kindergarten and 8 first grade classes, the lab seems to always be hopping. If you would like to know what your student is learning in the Computer Lab click the link 2010-2011 Lesson Plans.
Please feel free to stop by the lab anytime. If you would like to see what the kids are doing, plan to come with your child's class for a lesson.

TuxPaint

If you have a student in Kinder, 1st or 2nd, ask them about TuxPaint. With the delivery of the new lab, we did have to give up some old software. But we found a wonderful new drawing program that the kids love.

TuxPaint is shareware you can download for free (and that's in my budget!). We have run into a few issues, but have overcome most. The kids have been very creative with it and we will continue exploring the program this spring.

Here's the link if you would like to know more...

Cyber Safety

Do you trust your kids when they are on the internet? Do you worry about their activities online? You should!

Come to the General PTA meeting Jan. 26 and find out how Summitt is trying to keep your kids safe. Ms. Sawtelle will show you a great web resource for Parents and Teachers. I will explain how we use the internet with classes in the lab and the resources the district provides for school and home use.

And don't miss my exciting story about my son's internet mistakes. Also, I will post links here soon for you to go back to after the meeting.
